How many BTU do you need? Sizing by floor area
An air conditioner's capacity is measured in BTU and must match the room's floor area. An undersized unit never keeps up; an oversized one short-cycles, consumes more and dehumidifies less. Inverter, R32 and energy class: what the filters mean
- Inverter: the compressor continuously varies its speed instead of switching on and off. The result is stable temperature, lower consumption and a longer service life. Every model in this category is an inverter.
- R32: the modern refrigerant with a GWP of 675, roughly one third of the older R410A's 2,088 (AR4 basis). Under the EU F-Gas Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/573), virgin R410A is being phased down, making R32 the standard for every new installation from 2026.
- A+++ energy class: indicates seasonal efficiency. A+++ models deliver the highest seasonal efficiency on the scale (high SEER in cooling and high SCOP in heating) and noticeably lower annual electricity consumption than lower classes. For heating, Greece belongs to the Warm Zone (Regulation (EU) 626/2011); the heating class is presented on that basis.

How many BTU do I need for a 30 m² room?
For 30 m² a 12,000 BTU unit is recommended; it covers 20–30 m² with typical insulation. For an open-plan living room with a kitchen or hallway, consider 18,000 BTU.
What is the difference between A++ and A+++?
Moving from A++ to A+++ means lower annual electricity consumption for similar use. In a home that runs the unit for several months a year, the higher purchase cost is gradually offset by the lower running cost.
What is R32 and is it safe?
R32 is the modern refrigerant with a GWP of 675, about one third of R410A. It is rated A2L ("mildly flammable"), but residential split-unit installations are entirely safe when carried out by an F-Gas certified technician.
How much does air-conditioner installation cost?
